This week’s post is a slight deviation from the Resource List of books in ‘Weather Report’, for two reasons: the first is that I am away from base, the second is that I am doing it on my phone, which for me is a constraint.
But even with constraints we can do more than we think is possible. Can’t we?
This poem by Mary Oliver played a central part in my contribution to the project, Tosú Arís / Starting Over, which gave rise to the initial prototype that became ‘Weather Report’.
Back in the spring of 2022, as I groped towards some clarity about what I wanted to achieve with this book, reading Oliver’s poem strengthened my impulse towards including the noticing of beauty and then making it central to the daily journal practice in ‘Weather Report’.
I would love if you could take some time to find some moments of stillness, to read this poem, to listen to it, to let it sit with you.

Today, where are you finding beauty, joy? What if, as Mary Oliver tells us, ‘Joy is not made to be a crumb’?
It would be very special for me to hear your insights, your experiences, your thoughts in the comments below.
‘Weather Report: On Beauty’
LOVE this! Joy is not meant to be a crumb! Your voice reading it made it all the more powerful! Thank you!
I’ve always loved this poem and the line joy is not made to be a crumb
Thanks for sharing and reading it out loud
