Love this. I keep a "Book of Golden Quotes" where I jot down passages from books I'm reading which stand out to me, and often write why they stood out to me underneath. Have never heard the phrase Commonplace book before but really like that. Going to experiment with the left/right hand page approach now in my Golden Quotes notebook! :)
I love this and currently experimenting with ways to keep a commonplace book that work for me. Also good that Marion Milner's book has been republished - it feels so current :)
Thank you Mel, glad to hear this resonates with you. Yes, Milner’s work feels remarkably fresh and current. I’ve just bought a copy of her other well-known book, ‘On Not Being Able to Paint’. I’ve yet to dive in, but it’s a treat I’m looking forward to.
"Maybe it’s my dawning realisation that I get to decide what is beautiful on a daily basis, and what a wonderful power that is." Oh I love this!! I am writing this down in my own commonplace book x

Belinda, I love the title you gave your notebook! Let me know how you find the experiment. 📝👌

The ‘daily catch of happiness’ describes it so well. Fascinating to read this Margaret; happy fishing!
Thank you Michela - something you’re not unfamiliar with as evident from your own wonderful posts.

Just want to share Autobiography by Margiad Evans - bit later but similar era. I think you'll like it! https://www.honno.co.uk/books/autobiography
